Hon’ble Justice D.P. Mohapatra,

Supreme Court of India



Justice Mohapatra, enrolled as an Advocate of Orissa High Court on 12th October, 1960, he practiced on Constitutional, Civil and Criminal side in Orissa High Court and in subordinate Courts. He worked as additional Standing Counsel, Government of Orissa from August, 1967 to February, 1969, and Standing Counsel for Transport Department from March, 1969 to February, 1976. He was then appointed Judge, Orissa High Court on 18th November, 1983 (A.N.). He was then appointed as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on 16th February, 1996. He was later elevated and was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 9th December, 1998 where from he retired on 3rd August, 2002. He was later appointed as the Chairman of the Odisha Human Rights Commission.

Prof. J. Martin Hunter is a Barrister at the Essex Court Chambers, London and is also the Professor of International Dispute Resolution, Nottingham Trent University. He is also Visiting Professor King’s College University of London, Senior Visiting Fellow, University of Edinburgh; Hon Dean of Postgraduate studies, T.M.C. Asser Institute, The Hague. He was awarded the T.M.C Asser Gold Medal in 1992 (for exceptional contribution to postgraduate legal education). He is one of the most authoritative voices in the field of International Commercial Arbitration in the world today. He has numerous publications to his credit in this field.

Prof. N. L. Mitra,

Prof. N. L. Mitra received his M.Com, LL.M. and Ph.D. from Calcutta University. He holds certificate in Human Rights from International Institute of Human Rights, Strasbourg, France. Prof. Mitra has been formerly the Vice-Chancellor of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur. He has been the Chairman of several important Government of India committees and has advised Reserve Bank of India and other important bodies. He is also a member of NLUO’s Governing Council and Executive Council and thus supervises all our academic and administrative activities.

Shri A. K. Ganguli is a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court of India. He is renowned expert on arbitration matters in India. He has many publications to his credit on the aspect of arbitration.

Prof. Umakanth Varottil,

Prof. Umakanth has specialization in corporate law and governance, mergers and acquisitions and cross-border investments. While his work is generally comparative in nature, his particular focus is on India. He has co-authored a book on Singapore corporate governance, published articles in international journals and founded the Indian Corporate Law Blog. He has also taught on a visiting basis at the Fordham Law School, New York and at various law schools in India. Prior to his foray into academia, Mr. Umakanth was a partner at Amarchand Mangaldas, an eminent law firm in India. In 2006 and 2007, he was ranked as a leading corporate/mergers & acquisitions lawyer in India by the Chambers Global Guide.

Mr. Born is the chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. He has been ranked for the past 20 years as one of the world’s leading international arbitration practitioners and the leading arbitration practitioner in London. He has participated in more than 600 international arbitrations, including four of the largest ICC arbitrations and several of the most significant ad hoc arbitrations in recent history.

He is the current president of the SIAC Court of Arbitration and is also, a Member of the American Law Institute and has served on the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law, and as co-chair of the ABA International Section, Committee on International Aspects of Litigation. He is one of only two lawyers in the world, and the only lawyer in London, to receive global “starred” status in Chambers rankings for international arbitration.

He regularly teaches at Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, St. Gallen University, Georgetown University Law Center, National University of Singapore, University of Virginia College of Law, University College London and the University of Arizona College of Law.
